First-timers should know that songthaews thin out after dark and rarely run to outlying beaches like Railay or Tubkaek. For those you'll need a long-tail boat or a pre-booked transfer. Skip the touts at Krabi Town pier who bundle "taxi + boat" at splurge rates, walk 100 m to the public long-tail queue instead. If you're staying on the islands, luggage goes in dry bags. The sea can be choppy and bags ride upfront. From Krabi Airport, the official shuttle minivans are cheap and drop at Ao Nang or Krabi Town hotels.
